Hiker's Journal

A Social Network for Outdoor Enthusiasts

OK, this is more of a general curiosity question and I am really most interested in how the things outside of your life drive you on the trail. By that I mean, keep you going on long hikes, treks, and make sure you get yourself home alive and with as little physical proof of being out there as possible. What is it that makes you want to start the mission in the first place and ultimately returns you safe?

PS-Tired of having my picture on the main page so often. Someone else should start some more interesting threads.

considering the collective spiritual hikes Ive experienced, I'd say a sense of gratitude for the earth... my strong body and good health... and for the chance to have some fun ;-)

my reason to get out and explore is simple. to reconnect with that which deep down, calls to all of us. that voice inside that yells to see over the next horizon or mountain tip. you have it... i have it, its inside us all... most ppl repress it.
i feed it... as did my fathers before me.
