here is a list of a few things i can think of that i personally carry on a 2-4 night trip.

small stove, waterproof case of matches, dry socks, small knife or utility knife, water purifier or tablets, good pack, pad, sleeping bag, compact toiletries kit, small first aid kit, flint, small amount of emergency fire starter, flash light- best is a head lamp, wistle for emergency situations, etc.......

clothing- all depends on weather, location, and temperature

food- once again depends on how long but nuts, energy bars, pasta, water, dried fruit

Good call on that. However, there are some plants and such that naturally repel some bugs. However, Off is a bit easier to find and apply. :)
