honestly, i hate lockable blade knives, iv broken more then one of them. Instead, consider a fixed blade knife. Without the complexity of a folding and locking mechanism, fixed blades are easier to clean and they are stronger so they will last longer with the kind of abuse you will most likely put it through. i think they are also more safe then a locking blade knife. personally i am a fan of Gerber knifes, i have a few.
this is the one i use every time i go out. i like the gut hook but its not necessary and tends to get in the was sometimes while i am doing other things.
i would sagest, go to a local gear shop (bass pro shop, gander mountain, cabelas etc...) and pick them up feel them see what you like and how they feel in your hand and get some kind of idea of a handle style YOU like... if you do buy a Gerber it will most likely be in a plastic pack. look at spending about 20 - 60 bucks for a decent one. you can spend way more then that if you choose but honestly your going to beat the hell out of it and a 40 dollar knife and a 100 dollar knife both do the same thing haha. and if you lose a 40 dollar knife you can buy 2 more for the price of an expensive one haha
hope this helps

yikes !!! as crocadile dundee would say, " thats not a knife-this is a knife" !!!! actually it reminds me a lot of the machetes i saw while living in the virgin islands. the locals down there not only used them to clear a path thru the trails in the tropical forests but more so to open up the fresh coconuts and other fruits they got off the fruit trees.
I'll add my $0.02 here... I agree with the suggestion that a fixed blade might be a better option. I carry a folder every day, and use them constantly, but I'd carry a fixed blade if I could. As to what to get, I suggest the simple mora. They are inexpensive, rugged, and extremely useful. You can get any number of sizes, makes, and or models to fit your needs. I'd checkout Ragweed Forge's selection: http://www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html I've bought from him several times in the past and never been disappointed. The #1 at the very top of the page is a good choice. The sheath it comes with is serviceable but admittedly leaves some to be desired, but you can't beat the knife.
I usually carry a Swiss army backpacker Knife. will try to get a pic of it posted. Has all your basic swiss army stuff, canopener screww drivers leather awl, so forth. Blade is about 5-6 inches long, and has a real nice saw the same length that works great. I have had it for probably ten years.
Here's a SL3 Knife with Integrated Swedish Firesteel that I was considering buying today. I changed my mind and went with the normal firesteel because the knife looked to gimmicky on there, but if I saw a better design, I may consider buying something like it.
