Hiker's Journal

A Social Network for Outdoor Enthusiasts

I discovered the forum today after seeing the link in Johnny Molloy's newlsetter. I must say I am very impressed. I look forward to learning, discussing and contributing to the site. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast, writer, exercise and nutrition consultant, and member of Kentucky Association of Science Educators and Skeptics. I have had a couple of my articles featured in Johnny Molloy's newsletter and an article featured in the lastest edition of Wilderness Way. Sorry to bore anyone but I just wanted to briefly introduce myself.

I am in the process of starting a new site Knowledge Summit (and videos) that will emphasize science (various aspects) and the outdoors. I will probably need some additional outdoor writers. Please keep in mind if interested.

thanks,
Jamie Hale

Welcome to these forums Jamie. I discovered this site about a year and a half ago and I think it is one of the best on the nest for us outdoors people.

It sounds like you have quite a plan and project. Your website is quite interesting. I need to update mine as I haven't done much int he past couple of weeks but www.alphabluetech.com/kjhanlon is my outdoor site.

Thanks for the welcome. I enjoyed the article discussing cold weather camping. I meant to write an article concerning this topic in Jan but I never did. Time slipped away. I would also suggest when winter camping or hiking beware of frozen water. This recently came to my attention after exploring a frozen pond this winter. The temperature was 5-10 degrees and the pond was frozen. I walked around the perimeter of the pond looking at the frozen water. The next day I realized I wasn't walking around the perimeter but I was actually walking on the frozen pond. Be cautious.

Welcome aboard fellow Kentuckian. I'm a bit of a writer myself, although my published work is tech writing, I'm also creating some hiking and outdoors content.

I apologize for not extending a welcome when you first posted this. I totally know what you mean about time getting away from us. I've been moving back to the country (over a matter of a month).

However, I did want to say hello and welcome to the site!

I decided to add the outdoors content to my site MaxCondition.com. Knowledge Summit will contain all things science, philosophy, logic and general interest. I have found that many of my readers seem to enjoy outdoor discussion so why not add outdoor content to the site. Currently you can find Johnny Molloy interview at the site and in the near future outdoor content will include Survival Roundtable (4 survivalists discuss survival) Enter the Forest Book Review. If you are interested in contributing to the site please let me know. I would also like to put together an outdoors glossary. Maybe members can help me put it together.

thanks
