Who here kayaks in the large bodies of water? Oceans, seas, bays and such? It's really a different energy that is involved. I try to make it out once a year at least and have not gone yet this year. I have been to the Great swamp in NJ and the Lehigh but that is it so far.

Any suggestions in the area of the Lehigh Valley? Obviously not the Ocean, I usually go in the Atlantic off of Belmar or around there anyways.

It's pretty rough going ocean kayaking. I do sea kayaking and that's tough as is. The biggest concern is either getting dumped by a huge wave and trying not to lose any gear or worse, damaging the kayak.

The other concern is storms coming in and not having a place to pull into shore and sit it out. Then up in North Queensland, you can only stay in the one place for a day at a time because the crocodiles get to know your movements and you're a goner.

There's a dude that tried to go from Tasmania to New Zealand and died about 20km offshore. I just can't comprehend being on a little kayak, all closed up, with wild storm and 20 metre swell. It's really that intense. And then getting a bump by a 6 metre Great White Shark. It's really scary stuff. But then...pretty awesome also.

That's the link. It's a pretty good documentary.
