Where is the coolest place you have ever backpacked, hiked or camped?
Coastal Ranges and South Sierras, California
Where else have you backpacked, hiked or camped?
In U.S.: All over the Southeast, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, California
Abroad: Austria (Alps), Spain (Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Gredos), Costa Rica, Peru (Andes)
I'd love to say some of the abroad trips I've had rivaled California, but (a) they were only day trips, at least one of them kind of touristy and (b) the California geography is almost unmatched by anywhere I've been. Anyone been to New Zealand? Plus, I'm for the most part an amateur. Nothing hardcore yet in my repertoire. That is, it's something I enjoy doing when I can, but it's hardly a way of life at this point. Wouldn't mind if it was, though.
What outdoor activities are you interested in?
Really, it's just hiking, camping, skiing, the 'Bee. To be honest, I wish I did more of it. I go on tons of day hikes around town, but only do a camping trip about once a year. Backpacking trips are even farther between. Ski about once a year, sometimes twice, even though I have fairly easy weekend access to a bunch of stuff. Tried bouldering before, and it didn't take. I like the beach all right, but don't really do beach things other than read, swim, read, pass out, in that order. I like taking my dog to the park. I also like just being outside, even if it's only my front porch.
