His name is Sampson and he's the family pet. When he was younger I put packs on him and he'd at least carry his own dog food. Now he goes along and can't wait to curl up beside my sleeping bag close to the stove!

ficade said… - Where in Illinois? I help organize a backpacking club. Well, there are a lot of great places to hike at in Isle Royal. My hike took me to 3 mile, then to Moskey Basin, then to around the East side of Chicken Bone Lake to McCargoe Cove, (where I saw that Bull Moose) then back West around Chicken Bone to 3 mile, then last day at the Harbor. In the Spring 3 mile will give you a awesome sunrise. But I heard Todd Harbor will give you an awesome Sunset. Either way, you will not be disappointed. If you have a day before the Ferry, or even half a day, trek out to Lookout Louise or Scoville Point. Very nice. Hope that helped. It also depends on what Ferry you are taking. I'm assuming Ranger III. Haven't been to the South end of the Isle. Map is HERE

I just returned from a trip with 13 of my members to the North Cascades in Washington State, it was awesome. We had one week of blue skies and sunshine and the scenery is fantastic.

Both of our boats have also been used for Turkey hunting, no luck though, but they atleast took the boats out to try and have also used them in some pretty low water.
