Hi everyone,
I have some disappointing news. The platform that
Hiker's Journal was built on is looking to increase hosting costs by
400% and I don't know if I'm able to afford the increase. Unfortunately
that means our beloved social network for outdoor enthusiasts will have
to come down in July if I am unable to raise an extra $200 by the end
of June
If you don't want to see the virtual doors closed on
Hiker's Journal, you can help by donating. Just click the yellow

The trek to Everest Base Camp is without doubt one of the most famous in the world. It takes you into the heart of the Nepalese Himalaya, with awe-inspiring views of many of the world's highest and most beautiful mountains. Jagged Globe offer two variations to this classic trek (see also High Passes to Everest), both of which climb the famous Everest viewing point of Kala Patar (5,600

Louisville Hiking and Backpacking Meetup
It was a bracingly cold morning on Friday Jan. 1st as we hit the trail right at 9:30 AM and made our way down the Fire Tower trail to start our day. After a frosty group photo on top of the Fire Tower, we made our way down the #2 trail to Clifty Creek.
Brr (yours truly in red on lef…

I have problems accessing this site using my home pc running Vista. I have to log on from work to check things out. I feel there are setting/configuration problems on Vista that prevent me from accessing HikersJournal.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to remedy this problem?
Thanks,
Rory

Really, they do.
Don't ever buy or even click links of the lame people taking advantage of the traffic to this site trying to promote their stupid web businesses. It is a constant struggle for a site host to combat these invasive a**holes. Please do not encourage their behaviour.
This site is for HIKERS not web marketers. Let's try to keep it that way.
Happy Holidays, and get out on a dang trail. :)

All major campervan hire suppliers in Australia have depots in Sydney, typically conveniently located close to the Sydney airfield. Airport pick-up is generally unavailable for campervan hires in Australia but the various depots are usually only a short taxi ride away.Further north there are far more pretty coastlines as you drive thru Bicheno and north to St Helens ; gateway to the Bay of Fires. The access roads to the chain of beaches that make up the Bay of Fires are typically accessible by 2…

The best cup of coffee I have ever had: (Starbucks has nothing on this)
We woke up before the sun and packed up camp. Wading through wet and frosty grass and dodging patches of snow, it took us about 30 minutes to negotiate our way by headlamp to gain the CDT again. Once on the trail we headed East for another hour and a half. The sky was overcast, and there was a definite chill in the air. We continued on the trail and went almost to the top but just around the summit of a 12,252’ peak with no…

Our plan is to walk from the bottom to the top of Moreton Island, along the surf side, and then move along the northern beach, and catch the barge back. The walk was inspired by the three sailors in 1824, that shipwrecked on the island, and with the help of the local natives, made it back to the mainland. Their names were Thomas Pamphlet, Richard Parsons, and John Finnegan. You can find Pamphlet's narrative at the below website.

G'day all from Down under Downunder
Since moving to Tasmania from the sunny warm tropics I have really only got one decent walk under my belt, well
that has all changed now. I finally got around to climbing a decent pile of rocks, Mount Roland.

I will have some more pics when I…

Hey everyone, hope things are going well and you're doing a lot of exploring. I've added a few new features to the site, including gifts and something called "Qik." In case you've never heard of it, Qik is a live video service and can be used by people with those super duper smart phones. I don't know if any of you are interested in using this, but it was easy to add to the site and I thought it might be cool if it was even used once.
So, if there are any of you out there with an iPhone 3GS, an…

I expected the Fall colors to be peaking by now, but it looks like the next 2 weeks will see the best of the colors in the Kentuckiana area.
On Saturday, I hiked 2 trails in Bernheim Forest (Cull Hollow and Guerilla Hollow) and the colors were definitely coming on, but as of now, the deep reds and oranges aren't quite there yet.
Here are a few early fall color images from Saturday. Look for a few hiking blogs in the next 2 weeks as I've had quite a few awesome adventures since my last entry.…

Kingdom in the Sky!
“What we have in Bhutan today to offer is what others don’t have at all. It’s virtually a very unique destination and is priceless. Money can not buy what we have offer. If you are seeking five star comforts, a shopping paradise or lot’s of nightlife, Bhutan is not a destination to come. But, on the other hand , in the 20th century, if you are looking for a destination where you can experience something of the past as well as something of the present ,well Bhutan is the plac…

The weather is really getting right to camp. I love the fall leaves and the cool weather. If I were taking a group to the boundary waters (between Minnesota and Canada) to canoe, would it be wise to get some sort of
Temporary insurance. I am not sure that everyone in the group has
Medical insurance. I want to mak…

Since he was a kid, Gary Young, 2009 ‘X’ Games BMX Freestyle Bronze
Medalist, has been defying gravity, hanging in the air twisting and turning on
his bike. Now he is taking his love of extreme activities down under the sea.
“Snorkeling was really like the gateway for me to get into diving.” said
Young, 26. “I started snorkeling a few years ago and it really sparked my
interest. I learned about sea life and hanging out under water was a new
thing for me. It’s always been something I’ve been int…
