over thanksgiving break i was off work thursday thru monday so i traveled to challis, idaho about 170 miles, 3 1/2 hours northwest of pocatello.
challis is situated in between 2 of idahos largest and highest mountain ranges. and it has about 1200 very friendly people.
one of the reasons i went there was to * check out" mt. borah, the highest mountain in idaho, 12000 ft plus ! i'm going to attempt to summit hike it this coming july, from the trailhead it will be 5000 ft + elevation change in 3 1/2 miles ! this time i hiked to 9000 ft and turned around. does anyone have any experience in high altitude hiking ? any tips ? the highest i've summited so far is 10000 ft.
another reason was to film and take pictures of the wild horses that are on blm land. it was really fun watching them.
i also visited an area north of challis called morgan canyon. you drive 30 miles up the canyon on a backcountry road to the summit. my jeep worked out really well. at the summit i snowshoed. this is a really beautiful area and i'm thinking of purchasing land with an existing cabin for a "weekend getaway" here. the 2 parcels i looked at were absolutely unbelievable locations and i'm seriously thinking of making an offer on one of these parcels.i also saw some big horn sheep on this drive, 1st time i've seen them !
overall, it was a very nice visit. certainly more fun than shopping ! the scenery of idaho just never ceases to amaze me !!! will post some pics soon. hope everyone had a nice thankgiving !
